
Public awareness to the Kai Tak Sports Complex was raised by the discussion of replacing the sports complex with residential housing. Eventually, Chief Secretary Ms. Carrie Lam announced that the Kai Tak Sports Complex will remainfollowing the original development plan.
As a research institute which aims at promoting sustainable development in Hong Kong, we are glad to know that the Sports Complex is reaffirmed in the development plan in Kai Tak. It is a milestone to the future sports development in Hong Kong, which can thus enhance the diversified development of the city. Yet, long-term development plan of the sports complex is especially important to maximize its benefits and sustainability. This includes its usage, management strategies and supporting policies like traffic, environment and regional resources.
